Frequently Asked Questions

  • Applications are reviewed by faculty as they are received. Applicants will receive a decision within approximately 10–14 days of submitting a complete application.

    Applications received after April 25 will be considered on a rolling basis, pending available space.

  • Artist level participants, must submit a video recording(s) of two contrasting works that best display the student’s skill level.

    Future artist level participants must submit a video recording(s) consisting of one or two contrasting pieces of their choice

    String players must submit a video recording(s) of two contrasting works that best display the student’s skill level.

  • The Future Artist Program is open to students 14 and under with at least 2 years of piano playing experience.

    The Artist Program is open to students age 15 and up. The program is geared towards pre-professional level students.

    The string program is open to students age 22 and under. A small number of highly advanced students under age 12 may be invited to participate by audition.

  • Prior to the start of the festival, students may request to have lessons with specific teachers. These requests will be considered, but are not guaranteed.

  • Artist level: three hour long lessons and one masterclass spread across the two weeks

    Future Artist: two 30-minute lessons over the course of the week. If the student registers for two weeks, they will receive four lessons over the course of the two weeks

    Strings: 3 chamber music coachings and two individual lessons over the course of the week

  • Full program tuition cost for our artist level program is USD4350. Due to the generous support of our donors, each accepted participant will receive a USD2670 scholarship toward the cost of attending the program, making it the listed price of USD1680.

    A limited number of additional scholarships are available for students with financial need and will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. If you are interested or believe you may qualify, please contact us as soon as possible.

    Families that have more than one child attending may receive a 10% discount.

  • If you choose to room at American University, the cost of room and board will cover breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

    Students under 18 not staying in the dorms may elect to eat lunch on campus. In this case, we would invoice the family for the meals prior to the start of the Academy. Students may elect to pack their own lunch instead.

    The American University Cafeteria is open to the public at their own expense.
